Cape Town was taken down memory lane on Saturday at the Rocking The City concert at Grandwest, where several local artists of yesteryear took to the stage belting out their hits and memories.
The Cape Spy team joined thousands of fans in the Grand Arena who came out in support of their favourite artists from the 1990s, including Essential, The Boyz, Da Ballies, Dawnay and MarcAlex.
But we think everyone can agree that it was sax maestro Don Veno Prins who stole the show with a kwaai performance that lifted the roof, especially when he ended off with a Cape classic, Jou Hare Kannie Pom Pom nie.
Rocking the City was brought by Marmalade Productions and Alistair Izobell, who also sang a few songs to remind mense why he is still one of the best performers around.
The artists all sang a few cover songs before ending off with the hits that made them household names in South Africa.
Backed by a five-piece band and three backup singers. Some of the singers, like The Boyz, even managed to pull off their dance moves like they did back in the day, although we spotted some huffing and puffing after a few minutes, but hey, it’s been 20 years, right.
The ladies went mal when The Boyz sang their hit, Stay The Night, while Da Ballies brought everyone to their feet with their hit We Going Up.
The elderly duo also set hearts racing when they opened their set with Bruno Mars’ kinky hit, Versace on the Floor.
An amped Dawnay brought a few reggae hits, and MarcAlex ended off the show on a high note.
