It was a Prada affair as drag queens from all over the Cape arrived in Athlone to pick the best belle of the balls.
The 10th annual Miss Gay Western Cape took place at the Joseph Stone Auditorium on Saturday night and out of the 12 finalists, there could only be one queen and she is Mitchells Plain beauty, Wendy La Rosa, 32.
The high school teacher says it feels like she’s passed a test: “I’ve entered this pageant thrice before and winning in my fourth year is me graduating with my degree. I’m so excited and humbled to finally have reached my goal.”
Wendy got top marks for her colourful ensemble in the Carnival Extravaganza theme wear, and for swimwear she rocked a pink and black lace number, ending off her evening wear segment with a winning lilac satin dress with diamante detail.
Her second princess is Adrienne Galagatsi, 31, from Eersterivier who dazzled the crowd in her metallic gold evening wear.
The first princess is Bishop Lavis se Laylah Raja Novacek, 28, who also won Best Dressed.
“My dress was inspired by Kimora Lee Blac’s finale dress at the Rupauls Dragrace season 9 reunion,” she says.
MCs Nathan Kayser and PJ Smith kept mense entertained between acts.
Idols 2005 winner Karin Kortje performed along with drag diva Manila Von Teez while Ina Proppriette lived up to her name with a very explicit dance act that gave everyone hot flashes.
