Members of the Polo Society in Mitchells Plain got together to show off their kwaai cabbies to raise funds for kids with disabilities over the weekend.
The Ultimate Fundraiser event was held in the parking lot of Las Vegas Lounge on Saturday.
There was a drizzle of rain the morning, but nothing could dampen the spirit of supporters who came out to do their bit for Limsyb.
Limsyb is the initiative of Strandfontein resident Crystal Minnaar, 43, who cares for four children, three of whom are mentally and physically challenged.
She uses her three bedroom home to accommodate her pupils, who have cerebral palsy, autism, and slow development, as well as a four-year-old girl without any disabilities.
“I was a full-time qualified teacher at a regular school, but I always had a desire to teach special needs people,” she says.
“I know it’s very expensive for parents who have children with disabilities to find a day time carer and teacher to help them learn.
“I have one room turned into a class room for the kids and I teach them individually,” she adds.
Pupil Thafir Hendricks, 6, enjoyed the car show, his face lighting up with excitement when he was placed behind the wheel of various cars.
The Polo Society president Ashraf Saal, 32, says they’ve now adopted Crystal’s cause.
“We are happy to help Limsyb and we wish we could do more,” he says.
Nizaam Kleintjies, 33, from Muizenberg, showed off his kwaai VW Golf 6 GTI.
“The air setup on this car costs over R30 000 and the sound amounts to R10 000,” he says.
DJ Gary kept the music pumping while Ruben Smith, 35, from Bassonatics was on bass duty, using a decibel reader to find the loudest sound system.
