Club West End in Athlone was transformed into a theatre on Friday night as the Cape’s own ‘Sinderella’ made her debut.
Sinderella Vannie Kaap was written and directed by Tracey-Jean Geland and is about a Cape Flats family living in Steenberg.
Poor Sinderella must find a way to deal with her two stepsisters and stepmother who are out to get her, but luckily there’s a fairy godmother to help her look good for her matric ball.
It’s the classic tale with a Cape Flats twist, and mense came out in their numbers to show support.
The play stars the family members of seven-year-old Cianna Ornell, a talented gymnast who needs funds to compete in the US next month.
Cianna was also part of the play, as a narrator.
Her mother, Thalia Ornellas, says she never knew their relatives were so talented.
“I really appreciate all the support from the family for doing this production for Cianna.
“It’s the first time this production came to life and it did very well,” the mom says.
“We managed to raise R4 600 and still require R50 000 to make the trip possible.
“We hope to run this production again in the next two weeks to try and raise more money.”
Raymondae Maloy came out to support the show.
“I’m here with my family to support Cianna, the show was really lekker and I enjoyed seeing the different faces that came out to help get Cianna to the USA.”
