Athlone Stadium was awash with a riot of colour on Saturday, and it appears pink and lime were the flavours of the day as it seems most teams had a splash of these two hues in their gear.
It was part two of Day 2 of the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association competition, and 12 of 24 teams under the KKKA umbrella came out to compete in the English Combine Chorus, Juvenile Sentimental, Juvenile Combine Chorus and Afrikaans Moppie.
The teams were Juvie Boy Entertainers, Ashwin Willemse Orients, D6 Raw Entertainers, Kuilsriver Youth Development, Bishop Lavis Youth Development, Xtreme Minstrels, The Last Tomahawks, Wild Apaches, Woodstock Starlites, Kensington All Stars, Cape Town Hawkers and Posh Vibrants.
The Juvie Boys and D6 Raw had the crowd on their feet as they jolled into the stadium.
Ruwayda September from Manenberg says she came to support the Orients: “We never miss a day of competition when our team is taking part.
“I’ve been supporting Orients for many years and I believe they have a good chance at winning the competition this year.”
Although the competition ran a bit late, the audience was patient as they waited for their favourite teams to arrive.
One-year-old Shasmeen Samaai was a crowd pleaser as she joined the Ashwin Willemse Orients.
Dressed in her red tutu, as well as checked red and black dungarees, the cute little girl waddled her way down the track.
The director of the KKKA, Muneeb Gambeno, says he was happy with the outcome of the event.
“The teams were all excellent, and the juveniles really illustrated the depth of talent among our youth.”
