The ninth annual Miss Gay Western Cape dazzled at the Joseph Stone Auditorium on Saturday night and the Cape Spy team had front row seats to all the glitz and glamour.
Eleven finalists went head to head for the grand title.
GOING ALL OUT: Contestants at Joseph Stone Auditorium
The theme this year was “One world, different cultures” and the belles of the ball did not disappoint.
BEST DRESSED: Ina Propriate
The outfits were quite a gedoente, from leather and feathers and glitter galore, to silk, lace, beads and sequins.
But there could only be one queen. The title was won by the plus-size Emogen Moore, 29, from Mitchells Plain.
QUEEN OF THE BALL: Emogen Moore, Miss Gay Western Cape 2017 Queen
Emogen won the crowd over when she donned a traditional Chinese costume - a tribute to her Drag Mother Zilin Ayoki - fused with South African Culture.
CAN'T GET ENOUGH: The crowd couldn't contain themselves during the show
She says: “The Chinese calligraphy is a translation of the theme and my neck piece is from the 11 cultures within South Africa.
“I’m also displaying Chinese tradition of face changing, which is what we as Drag Queens do daily.”
She bared all in her stunning swimwear and ended off in a black and diamante evening gown.
The first princess crown was awarded to Wendy La Rosa and the second princess was Laylah Zokufa Khan, also from Mitchells Plain.
The Plain’s queens truly ruled the show.
DOING HER THANG: Adriana Rosanda Beukes
Emogen sank to the floor when pageant director Mark Donough announced her as queen.
HOST: MC at the Miss Gay
“This was my third year trying out and I told myself that this year I am going to work harder from the get go,” she said.
“The competition was extremely tough this year because every girl was hungry for the title and we coined this year’s pageant as the year of the hungry.
“Lucky for me I didn’t eat for months so I was even hungrier for the title.”
The “patsy” wouldn’t be complete without a “paula” performance by SA’s Got Talent2016 finalist Manila Von Teez, who arrived on the stage in a golf cart.
She lip-synced a few Pink numbers with her dance crew.
And what would the night be without Kat Gilardi doing a death drop during her performance.
SAGT FINALIST: Singer, Nassi Mbohlompo
Other acts included Genevieve Williams and SA’s Got Talent finalist, opera singer Nassi Mbohlompo.
