And they need your vote to come out tops.
The Kaapse klongtjies will be up against Jozi giant Cassper Nyovest.
Surprisingly, AKA didn’t crack a nod this year.
Ready D says he views his nomination as people are becoming aware of and recognising hip hop culture in Cape Town.
“I’m proud and excited about this nomination, I view this as a nomination that acknowledges the hip hop culture in Cape Town and people are now fully aware of the contribution and the legacy. This is the point where we are reaching out to CPT to come on board and support that,” he says.
Ready D says 10 years of airing has brought kwaai guests to the studio.
“The show has been running for 10 years, that’s a milestone. Looking back, we had over 2000 rappers come through our doors to be on the cypher session,” he says.
“Big names including YoungstaCPT, Early B, Hemelbesem, Patty Monroe, International names, Public Enemy, Flavour Flav.
“This show is bigger than a hip hop award. We’re all about celebrating the human spirit and our achievements as Capetonians.
