Beloved Cape Flats club DJ Russell “the love muscle” Connolly died in hospital on Friday morning after suffering from a lung infection.
Known for his kwaai DJ skills, the 56-year-old DJ from Steenberg was a regular feature on many club lineups across the Cape.
His sudden death comes as a shock to his fans and friends in the industry.
Russell’s best friend Calvin Peters, aka Uncle Cal, says Russell’s passing was a shock to him.
“I am shocked and still in denial on the passing of Russell,” he tells the Daily Voice.
“I still filled in for him at his function at Hanover Street on Saturday.
“He told us that the doctor says he needs to go on disability because the condition of his lungs was in a bad state, but we never expected him to pass away.
“Fellow DJ’s all planned to meet at his place once he was discharged to discuss how we could come together and assist a brother in need."
Russell, who was unmarried, is survived by his kids and siblings.
