HELLO my good football people... I hope you had a great weekend! I was travelling and catching games where I could. I think the pick of the bunch had to be Crystal Palace v Liverpool on Saturday.

I’m wondering if I’ll get a couple of messages of apology, the accusation that I know f**k all about football because I dared to suggest Liverpool weren’t worth their top-spot value in the Premier League.

Look, of course I’m a bit annoying sometimes because I take aim at my enemies when I can and Liverpool happens to be one of them. But the reality is (and a couple of my Scouse mates feel the same) they’ve been fortunate a few times to get results this season.

I still believe things are going to click and we’ll see the kind of Reds from last season. But at the moment, they are very average.

There are number of players who are playing well below their best, including the likes of Mohamed Salah, while the inclusion of Florian Wirtz seems to be further disrupting the flow.

It’s almost like Arne Slot is now just attempting to shoehorn him in the middle of the park at the expense of a more stable recognisable four, to give the youngster a chance to find his feet.

In the meantime (and it’s what champions do) they’ve got away with a great start (on paper) while the team in general finds it’s feet.

I do still believe the league title will be a race between Liverpool and Arsenal (with Manchester City in the mix), but what was interesting at the weekend was the nature of the results.

Liverpool on the one hand should have probably lost 5-1, had it not been for a Ballon d’Or performance by Alisson Becker. In the end, they ended up losing (like they’ve inflicted on others so many times) deep into stoppage time.

CRUCIAL: Gabriel, far right, scored an important winner

Meanwhile, the Gunners appeared dead and buried at St James’ Park on Sunday. Newcastle were the better team and looked like securing all three points before a late equaliser and very late stoppage-time winner from Gabriel gave Mikel Arteta’s men a really important win.

Important because these are the moments that guide the psychological side-war as genuine title candidates jostle for position.

By the way, thank God Arsenal won, otherwise they’d be screaming conspiracy again after legitimately losing a penalty decision.

I find Arteta’s sarcastic smiling like he is being cheated extremely annoying. Anyway back to my comments about Liverpool looking shaky at the top…What do you say now? Slaughtered in south London! Thankfully for the Reds, it’s Chelsea away this Saturday.

Now hear me out again, all these pundits giving Chelsea an outside chance of winning the title? They don’t actually watch games do they? They must just read speculative stuff and form their opinion out of nothing.

Anyone who has actually watched the Blues this season will know they aren’t a great side. They’ll be lucky to make a top-four finish. There’s a lot of young talent, but that’s about it. The team needs experience on the pitch to guide it and I’m afraid to say (as I support giving manager’s time) experience to guide it.

Over the last few weeks Enzo Maresca has baffled us all with peculiar tactics, team selections and substitutions. All in the name of “rotation” in a busy schedule. However, rotating is a fine balancing act and the results just aren’t coming.

I believe there is a great side brewing at Stamford Bridge, but I’m afraid we might need to see a new managerial appointment to realise it.

So yes, Liverpool return to London and I’ll be surprised if Chelsea squeeze a result even though the Reds are s**t.

It’s similar, but not as bad as Manchester United... It’s a complete s**t show at Old Trafford. That’s it, the Ruben Amorim “stay” or “go” debate isn’t a debate.

Little glimmers of hope like hanging on for a win at home against Chelsea are quickly dashed… Outplayed by Brentford. For f***’s sake, how long can it go on for?

I really enjoy watching Palace, there is a real team spirit there. I love Oliver Glasner, he is in with the players. You can just see the body language, pain, delight, running down the touchline when they score.

It’s early days still, we’ll only really see where this season is heading after December. Things will chop and change, but it’ll be the usual suspects there and thereabouts at the end. I’m interested to hear your (unbiased) thoughts.

Chat next week. Bye bye.
