Hanover Park residents are hartseer after a soft-spoken homeless man was killed by heartless skollies on Saturday night.
Friends of the man, only known as “Krone”, say they are in shock after finding his bullet-riddled body behind Etosha Court shortly after 11pm.
Residents living in the council flats say shortly after the street lights went out due to load shedding, several shots were fired by gunmen, believed to be members of the Derwent Kidz gang, out of a car as Krone walked in Athwood Road.
Feerouza Solomons, 38, says she never knew Krone’s real name or the history behind his nickname, and says he has lived on the streets for years.
“I don’t know his real name, but he’s been coming to me for two years. He has a sister somewhere in Hanover Park, but all he did was skarrel for scrap metal and food.
“On Saturday he still asked me for a R5 and I told him I don’t have.
“Then he left and was shot. I can’t believe it, he did nothing to anybody and wasn’t even a gangster. He used to bring a pillow and sleep under my stairs.”
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says Philippi police responded to the shooting at 11.38pm where they found the 35-year-old man fatally wounded.
“A murder case was opened for investigation. No arrest has been made and it is yet to be determined if the incident was gang-related.”
Anyone with any information about this shooting is asked to call investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Mveleli Kedama, at 073 586 2119 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
