There were thrills and spills on the red carpet, but The Weeknd didn’t put a foot wrong at the annual Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) on Sunday night in Las Vegas.
The Canadian singer made a clean sweep and took home no fewer than EIGHT awards, including Top Hot 100 Artist and Top R&B Artist.
The Weeknd dedicated his first award to Prince, who died at the age of 57 last month.
Meanwhile, Ariana Grande made her naam gat on the red carpet.
Approaching a presenter for an interview, she nearly took a tumble but was saved by reporter Sibley Scoles.
“If that’s not an entrance, I dunno what is!” Scoles giggled.
The red-faced singer replied: “I almost broke my ass.”
The show’s hostess Ciara set the pulses racing in a sexy silver dress.
Britney Spears showed up in a form-fitting lacy black bodysuit, which she later exchanged for a jewelled red bikini when she took to the stage to perform.
Britney was given the Millennium Award, making her the third ever artist to receive it alongside Beyoncé and the late Whitney Houston.
Other big winners on the night were Adele, who won Best Artist, Best Female Artist, Top Billboard Album and Top Billboard Artist.
Justin Bieber was named Best Male Artist.
And all eyes were on pop singer Kesha, who did her first live performance since her court battle with her former label, Kemosabe Records.
She performed a cover of Bob Dylan’s It Ain’t Me, Babe, even though the record company banned her from performing at the awards.
Kesha wants to end her contract with record executive Dr Luke, who she accused of drugging and raping her.
