The Western Cape ANC Youth League is keeping mum over charges that led to the suspension of their secretary.
Andile Mbali was suspended last week following a meeting by the league’s provincial leadership.
Mbali came under fire recently over allegations that he called for other leaders in the organisation to boycott a meeting where a decision was to be made over who to support for the party’s deputy president.
Mbali allegedly sent the letter on October 13, days before the meeting, and was suspended for 15 days.
However, sources say a faction within the league has been gunning for Mbali’s head over his support of the party’s controversial Provincial Chairperson, Marius Fransman.
But the league’s provincial spokesperson, Siyabulela Tom, yesterday denied these rumours.
“We are reluctant to discuss the nature of the charges in public until [Mbali] has made an appearance before the disciplinary committee [in November],” he says.
“But I can say that the charges are in no way related to the fact that comrade Mbali was in support of Marius Fransman, as is being suggested.”
