Wayne Rooney has found an unlikely ally in Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who leapt to the defence of the Manchester United striker by saying the legends of the past “drank like devils”.
Rooney apologised on Wednesday after images emerged of him on international duty looking dikgesuip having dropped in on a wedding party over the weekend following Friday’s victory over Scotland at Wembley.
He says: “All the legends you admire drank like devils and smoked like crazy and were still good players. Nobody does that anymore.
“I’ve no idea where Wayne was but I’m pretty sure it was not that serious.”
