Wayde upsets Olympic bosses

CONTROVERSIAL: Wayde's pic with Sonny Bill Williams

Olympic world record holder slammed for wearing an Adidas T-shirt.

Olympic sprinter Wayde van Niekerk’s choice of clothing has reportedly angered the man in charge of the SA Olympic team.

SASCOC CEO Tubby Reddy is said to have confronted Wayde about a picture he tweeted with him and All Blacks rugby star Sonny Bill Williams at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, according to Rapport.

Wayde is wearing an Adidas tracksuit and this is what reportedly rubbed Reddy up the wrong way, because Adidas is not an official SA team sponsor.

Williams shared the picture on Twitter, while Van Niekerk retweeted it and replied: “What a humbling moment meeting you… blessings.”

He is seen wearing a black top with an Adidas emblem in large print on the front, and Tubby reportedly threw a fit.

CHIEF: Sascoc CEO Tubby Reddy ‘complained’ about Wayde’s choice in attire.

Several Olympic athletes said Reddy was “furious” and ordered Wayde to delete the post.

“He (Van Niekerk) was not fazed and refused. We’re not allowed to pose on social media in clothes not provided by SASCOC or the IOC (International Olympic Committee),” one athlete is quoted as saying.

Reddy told the newspaper there was no argument between him and Wayde but he added that Wayde was given a stern talking to about sporting non-sponsored brands.

“Wayde broke the rules, because for the duration of the Games he belongs to the South African team and not his sponsors Adidas.”
