Mense were invited to cut their hair to raise funds for charity.

Mense who love Wayde van Niekerk put their money where their mouth is this morning — just like Good Hope FM DJ Nigel Pierce.

Nigel and his breakfast show crew  hosted a fundraising event, called FadeForWayde this morning,  hoping the money will make a difference in the lives of prematurely born babies.

Prem babies are close to Wayde’s heart — he was one himself.

The 400m Olympic gold medallist was born at 29 weeks at Tygerberg Hospital, from where he was transferred to the Groote Schuur hospital neonatal unit, as his parents feared for his life.

Nigel says Wayde’s record-breaking win at the Rio Olympics is what inspired him to do the fundraiser  and a portion of the money will be donated to Groote Schuur’s neonatal unit, the Newborns Trust.

This morning Nigel and his team  broadcasted live from Claude’s Barbershop in Kraaifontein, Wayde’s hometown.

“Firstly, we decided to host the event in Kraaifontein because that’s originally where Wayde is from. Secondly, he has a famous fader cut, that is in style at the moment and in fashion,” explains Nigel.

The haircutting marathon started at 5am, when Nigel’s show starts, and ran until 11am.

Nigel says mense were be charged R60 per cut, of which R10 will be donated to the Newborns Trust.

Earlier this year, Wayde donated R500 000 to the trust.

Nigel Pierce also interviewed Wayde’s fan book creator, Clint White, during this morning’s show.
