Employee 'defrauds' boss with an illegal swiping machine.

A waiter has appeared in court after he allegedly used an illegal swipe machine to defraud his boss out of R100 000.

Tawanda Chirume, 24, made his first appearance at the Grabouw Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday on charges of unauthorised possession of point of sale (swiping machine).

It is believed Chirume processed customers’ payments using the device, which did not belong to the business.

His boss reported losing a total of R100 000.

Police believe Chirume is part of a syndicate defrauding businesses as well as customers’ bank cards.

His case was postponed to June 15 for his bail hearing.

Also on Wednesday, cops arrested two suspects aged 25 and 35 at Cape Town International Airport after they were allegedly found in the possession of a point of sale device used to clone bank and credit cards.

They appeared at the Bellville Magistrates’ Court yesterday on charges of contravention of the electronic communications transaction act.
