Two die in taxi smash

KILLED: Jerome Spandiel and Niel Bouwers

Newspaper run leaves taxi boss and family member dead.

A well-known taxi owner and his relative were killed in a head-on collision while on their way to collect newspapers.

The R43 between Bot Rivier and Hermanus was closed near Salandra Café and Honingklip yesterday after the fatal accident that happened at about 2.20am.

Jerome Spandiel and Niel Bouwers were killed on impact when a vehicle with several occupants travelling in the direction of Kleinmond collided with their silver bakkie.

The front parts of both vehicles were completely mangled and the windscreens smashed.

Traffic spokesperson Jacques Mostert confirmed the two occupants of a Ford LDV were killed and that the road was closed while rescuers were on the scene.

Captain FC van Wyk says a culpable homicide case is being probed.
