Cops have nabbed two suspects and confiscated perlemoen worth more than R1 million in a bust in Edgemead.
Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana says cop reacted on a tip-off.
“[On Wednesday] at 4.30pm, police attached to the Flying Squad followed up on information they received about abalone that is being kept at a residence in Gideon Malherbe Crescent, “ Rwexana says.
“Upon their arrival at the residence, police searched the premises and discovered 10 boxes of dried abalone, two bags of frozen abalone and shark fins, the latter without a permit.
“The estimated street value of the find is more than R1 million.
“Two chest freezers and two scales were also seized.”
Rwexana says a man and woman, aged 36 and 46, were arrested.
“The duo will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court, facing various charges under Marine Resources Act once charged.”
