The driver of this truck got a lekker skrik when he suddenly lost his load.
It’s believed the trailer came loose, separated from the truck and overturned on a busy street during peak hour traffic.
The trailer broke off from the fifth wheel of the truck and landed on its side along Viking Way and Van Riebeeck Street in Epping on Wednesday just after 6pm.
Traffic authorities had to act quickly and closed off the road, diverting motorists to Bofors Circle.
Witnesses say the shocked driver emerged from his huge truck wearing shorts and scratching his head in disbelief on how the trailer had broken off from the wheel it had been attached to.
No one was injured.
He would also not divulge what he had been transporting, although there was speculation at the scene that the load was “dangerous rat poison”.
Signage on the container said it belonged to Evergreen.
However, when the Daily Voice contacted the owners yesterday, they claimed to have no knowledge of the accident.
A manager, who identified himself as Yacoob, said they had “no relation” to the truck or driver.
Traffic Services spokesperson, Richard Coleman, says officers on the scene were also not told what was in the container, but were glad the load didn’t spill.
“A semi-trailer with a container had overturned and had dislodged from the fifth wheel of the truck,”’ he says.
“The road was closed and traffic was diverted into Bofors Circle.
“The container remained sealed.”
