Mitchells Plain cops have arrested three men in three separate incidents for being in possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition and drugs.
On Friday night, Mitchells Plain police and neighbourhood watches of Rocklands and Portlands were on a routine community mobilisation drive when they noticed a suspicious vehicle, says spokeswoman Constable Noloyiso Rwexana.
“At about 7.15pm the members were patrolling in Beaufort Street, Rocklands, when they noticed a Toyota Quantum with five occupants parked on the side of the road. The members investigated and observed a man walking across the street with a firearm. They approached the man and confiscated a Norinco 9mm pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition,” she says.
The 42-year-old man was arrested.
In an unrelated incident, officers attached to the Mitchells Plain crime prevention unit nabbed a 34-year-old man in Kardouw Street, Tafelsig, for illegal possession of ammunition on Friday.
Officers were on routine crime prevention patrol at about 4.30pm when they “saw the suspect and searched him”. The man dropped a small plastic packet containing six live rounds of R5 ammunition.
Later on Friday afternoon, at about 5.05pm, officers executed a search at a house in Siberian Street, Rocklands, which led to the arrest of a 65-year-old man for possession of 18 Mandrax tablets and 20 dagga stoppe.
