Train collision ‘error’

DEADLY: One killed, 243 injured in Ekurhuleni crash

Driver passed danger signal before ramming head-on to another train.

Human error was the cause of the collision between two trains where one person died near Kaalfontein Station in Ekurhuleni on Monday, Metrorail said.

One of the trains passed a danger signal before colliding with the other train head-on.

“A board of inquiry will be instituted to determine the root cause of the accident. A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Tembisa police station,” the company said.

One male passenger died and 243 commuters both trains were injured. The deceased was trapped in the wreckage.
