Arrested Pagad member was released on bail after his court appearance on Friday.

A Pagad member bust with illegal ammunition at his house has been released on bail.

Aslam Toefy, 67, made a brief appearance at the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning where he was released on R2000 bail.

Toefy was arrested at his home in Schaap Road, Schaapkraal, on Thursday morning by a small army of cops.

A source said cops received a tip-off about illegal ammunition on the premises.

He believes Toefy was bust because his gun licence was outdated.

The case was remanded to November 14 for further investigation.

Outside court, Toefy spoke to several People Against Gangsterism and Drugs members who had come to support him.

He was not available for comment, but in a lengthy Facebook post, he wrote he was “never going to give up fighting for the oppressed”.

“The time has come for us to challenge the evil system of Drugs and Gangsterism.

“Our community is being destroyed by the system. The system is targeting our children. Question Why? Is it that we the oppressed must never rise to challenge the powers that’s keeping our people in poverty …on the Cape Flats?

“People, we must rise and reclaim our dignity. [sic]”

He added: “We are more determine now, than ever before to fight the system.”
