ARRESTED: Two suspects bust for community shooting

The victims are aged between five and 16 years old.

Two people were arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of eight people, including four children.

An evening of socialising turned into chaos when four gunmen opened fire on a home in Longkloof Circle, Heideveld on Friday night.

The victims, including four children aged five to 16, were outside at the time of the shooting.

They were rushed to hospital with various injuries.

The suspects, an 18 and 19-year-old, are expected in court soon.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says police got information that one of the suspects named in the shooting was hiding in Strand.

“[Strand police] were given an address in Strand area and on their arrival they arrested the 18-year-old male who was named in the shooting.

“The team also arrested the other 19-year-old male who was also mentioned in the attempted murder.”

He adds: “Whilst members were at the premises, they searched it and found two firearms, a .45 calibre pistol with eight live rounds and a 9mm Parabellum with seven rounds.

“One of the firearms was stolen [in] Hout Bay, the other has not been reported stolen yet. It is registered to someone in Kimberley.”

Cops also confiscated 17 half mandrax tablets and 16 units of tik, and Van Wyk says the homeowner was nabbed.

He adds: “A 30-year-old male, the owner of the home, was arrested for the possession of the unlicensed firearm and drugs and will be appearing in Strand Court soon.”
