A 17-year-old girl from Lavender Hill has died after she was shot four times in the face.
Mishka April’s bloody body was found in a passageway between Hillwood Primary and Levona Primary Schools in the early hours of yesterday.
According to her grandmother, the teen, who lived with her, was “a night owl”, and addicted to tik and dagga.
Ouma Millicent April, 61, cried yesterday as she explained how her granddaughter was shot in the mouth, leaving the right side of her face almost completely gone.
“She was here just before 10pm on Sunday, but I was too afraid to open because here in St Christopher you never know who will come and shoot you at the door. Her grandfather saw her walking off and that was the last any of us saw her alive,” Millicent sobs.
The girl was buried according to Muslim rites yesterday, and mourners were not allowed to view her face.
A distraught neighbour says: “Who does that to someone? She did not deserve to die like this, nobody deserves that.”
Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut confirms the incident, and says Mishka’s body was discovered in Deposition Crescent by passersby on their way to work at about 6.40am.
Traut says: “We believe she was shot and killed during the early hours of this morning by an unknown suspect who is yet to be arrested. Anyone with information is requested to contact Steenberg police at 021 702 9000 or Crime Stop at 0860 010 111.”
