A 15-year-old was shot and wounded in what’s believed to be a retaliation gang attack in Heideveld on Tuesday night.
Brent van Reenen and his 13-year-old brother were at a tuck shop in Spitskop Street, Heideveld, when gunmen opened fire on them.
The older teen was shot in both legs and still has a bullet lodged in one leg.
His aunt, Carmen Jacobs, 36, says although Brent is related to gangsters, he is not one himself.
“He is related to gangsters and they (gunmen) were looking for someone to shoot,” she tells the Daily Voice.
“When they couldn’t get the people they were looking for, then they probably decided to hit the children.
“Someone was shot on Sunday and this was most probably a retaliation to that shooting but Brent had nothing to do with it.
“His brother managed to get away.”
Lieutenant Colonel André Traut says no one has been arrested.
“A 15-year-old male was shot and wounded in Spitskop Street, Heideveld, last night [Tuesday] at 9pm by an unknown suspect who is yet to be arrested.
An attempted murder is being investigated.
