A 19-year-old man has become the latest victim of a gang war on the Cape Flats.
Tauriq Isaacs was visiting a local spaza shop in Hanall Walk, Hanover Park, when he was shot in the head on Monday just before 3pm.
Philippi Police spokesperson, Captain Lance Goliath, says cops are trying to determine whether the shooting was gang-related.
“The deceased sustained a single gunshot wound to his head, “ he says.
“The suspect is unknown and is still at large.
“Police have yet to determine if the incident was gang-related and what the motive was.”
Goliath says Law enforcement and Metro Police members have been deployed to hot spots in the area.
Chairman of the Mitchells Plain community Police Forum Hanif Loonat says the teen was a known drug addict but not a gangster.
“I have spoken to the teenager’s family and he was only a child,” he says.
“He was on drugs but the family have indicated he was no gang member.”
Loonat say the gang war brewing in Lavender Hill appears to be spilling over to other areas.
“The violence has now moved to Hanover Park,” he says.
