Teen dies at voting station
Family claims young man predicted his demise.

A teenager who died after suffering a heart attack at a voting station, had a “premonition of impending doom”, according to his family.

Just two days before his death, 19-year-old Armand Clarence Marthinus from Struisbaai posted on Facebook, asking who is next.

Wi is volgende (sic) (Who is next),” reads his post at 6am on Monday, 1 August.

In the post he mentions that he lost three uncles, his granny and an aunt all in the space of one year.

The ANC youth volunteer, who would’ve celebrated his 20th birthday on August 27, collapsed at the voting station in Struisbaai while voters were busy casting their votes.

His mom Cathy Marthinus, 55, says he complained of chest pains the previous night but seemed cheerful the next morning.

“They say he had a heart attack. When I got to the hospital he was already dead,” she sobbed.

Cathy adds that her son had a premonition of his death.

“His uncle passed away last Thursday and he told us he wouldn’t be at the funeral [this week],” she explains.

The ANC has expressed their condolences to the family, and described Armand as a “loyal youth volunteer”.

“The ANC is saddened by the untimely departure of a dedicated worker. His family, friends and comrades are in our thoughts at this time of mourning,” says ANC Western Cape secretary Faiez Jacobs.
