Cops have arrested a 19-year-old suspect for the alleged murder of a female police officer.
This follows a shootout in Acacia Park in Philippi East on Tuesday night.
The officers, both based at the Philippi East Police Station, were delivering a protection order when they were attacked by three armed men.
Constable Amanda Ladlokova, 33, died at the scene while her partner, a 39-year-old sergeant, was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
Earlier today officials from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations, known as the Hawks announced that they had arrested a 19-year-old suspect.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Llyod Ramovha says: “The officers had just finished serving a protection order at one address when they were approached with a similar complaint within the vicinity. On their way to assist they were suddenly allegedly shot at, by about three armed man, who subsequently robbed them of their firearms before they fled the scene.
“He is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Friday to face charges of murder, attempted murder, and robbery with aggravating circumstances.”
