A day after the gruesome murder of a family on Saturday in De Aar, Northern Cape, police arrested an 18-year-old boy for the brutal stabbing.
Glenwill Makaleni, 40, his wife Gladys, 38, and their 10-year-old son Gladwill were found in their Montana home in the early hours of Saturday morning, with multiple stab wounds.
A family member contacted police when she found the house locked and the couple failed to answer their phones.
“The deceased’s home was locked from inside, the investigation team had to cut off the burglar bars to gain entrance into the deceased family’s house,” said Captain
Olebogeng Tawana
The suspect is expected to appear in the court on three murder charges soon.
The couple were employees at the Department of Education in the Northern Cape’s regional office in De Aar.
Northern Cape provincial chairperson of the DA’s Women’s Network, Safiyia Stanfley, has condemned the attack.
“The cold-blooded murder of the Makalenis highlights why the soon to be launched 16 Days of Activism Against Violence campaign needs to become a 365-day campaign.”
