A Cape Flats teacher was assaulted yesterday when gangsters stormed into his class and “smacked him about”.
Authorities believe the attack happened after the teacher at Strandfontein High School reprimanded a learner in class.
Yesterday the school was on lockdown and class dismissed at 1.30pm.
It’s believed three members of the Fancy Boys gang forced their way onto the school grounds and barged into a Grade 8 classroom.
Witnesses say the Geography teacher, who cannot be identified, was smacked around by the gang members.
After the gangsters ran off, the traumatised teacher rushed to the office, where they called the police and the Western Cape Education Department.
School principal, Peter Brockman, tells the Daily Voice they have now called for stricter and tighter security measures at the school.
“Someone from the outside came onto the school grounds and smacked a teacher,” the shocked palie says.
“We have contacted Safer Schools as part of protocol. The teacher has been left traumatised and I cannot comment on whether there is a case.
“This is the first time something like this has happened.”
A police source says the skollies attacked after a girl went home to complain about the onnie.
“They forced their way past security and forced their way into the class and assaulted a teacher. It relates to a girl that was in that class who was reprimanded by that teacher.”
Millicent Merton, of the Directorate of Western Cape Education Department says: “The department is aware of the incident and is investigating.”
