It was a day of insults at the Cape High Court yesterday as the defence and prosecutors in the Zephany Nurse kidnapping trial wrapped up their cases.
It started with the 51-year-old accused calling her hecklers “clowns” in court.
The Seawinds woman had stepped out of the witness stand for a brief adjournment when mense in the public gallery started passing remarks at her.
“You’re bunch of clowns,” the angry looking woman said before walking away.
A few hours later, Zephany’s dad Morné Nurse called the accused’s husband an idiot for being fooled into believing his then fiancée was pregnant when she was not.
Earlier in court, the 48-year-old testified his wife’s stomach appeared big and he thought she was pregnant.
The accused told the court yesterday she let her family think she was still pregnant after suffering a miscarriage.
She said no one suspected anything because she was fat.
But Morné said the husband must have been stupid not to realise he was being duped.
“I think he is a dwankie [someone or something that is lame, stupid],” he said.
“For a lady who had been beating around the bush for nine months, any father would have picked it up.
“I think he is a total idiot.”
