IN THE FINAL: Lions celebrate

After booking their place in the final with a 42-30 win over defending champions the Highlanders on Saturday, Ackermann’s charges will now travel to New Zealand where they will be looking to win the tournament for the first time since 1993 when Transvaal won the Super 10.

Ackermann says: “It is a big challenge against a tremendous Hurricanes side.

“The guys love touring and hopefully we will travel well. We will give it our best shot - there is nothing more I can ask from the guys.

“All the pressure is on the Hurricanes. They ended number one and they are playing at home, so we can just go out there and enjoy our game.”

Man of the Match Elton Jantjies, who scored 22 points, adds: “I don’t have a lot of words, but it is a big year. We still have another week to go.”

The Lions will be boosted by the return of inspirational skipper Warren Whiteley, who missed Saturday’s impressive win with a calf strain.
