Snyman to blitz Pool B

FOCUS: Philip Snyman

Blitzbok captain Philip Snyman wants to lead his team to an historic first Hong Kong Sevens victory this weekend.

But he knows in order to do so, they will have to get past the group stage first.

South Africa have been drawn alongside Canada, France and Kenya in Pool B, with Snyman saying: “We dare not look past France for our first match [tomorrow], so our focus will be on a strong start on Day One.

“We are very keen to win here, but to do that we need to keep it simple, believe in our structures and game plan.”

SA could face either Fiji or New Zealand in the quarterfinal, but Snyman is not looking that far ahead and adds: “They both have awesome records at this tournament, but we are not looking at potential quarterfinals yet.”

The Blitzbokke have undergone some changes to their squad because of injuries and key players switching to XVs, but Snyman is not too worried.

He adds: “If we stick to our system and structure like we have done in the last couple of months, the rewards will be there.”
