Having last played for the Boks against Ireland in June last year, Kolisi suffered an ankle injury while on Stormers duty and was ruled out of the end of year tour to the UK.
But with promotion to the Cape captaincy and strong performances this season, he will come into the reckoning once again when coach Allister Coetzee announces his starting XV for the first Test against the visiting French next week.
Kolisi’s path to the starting XV has been made a little easier with the Springboks announcing that Duane Vermeulen will only join the squad next week.
Vermeulen, who will play for his club Toulon in the French Top 14 final against Clermont this weekend, was expected to compete for the No.7 jersey after No.8 Warren Whiteley was named captain of the team for the series.
It is unlikely, though, that Coetzee will start with Vermeulen in the clash – especially because he is a late arrival.
Whiteley, meanwhile, is confident that the team is gelling on their camp in Plettenberg Bay.
The Bok skipper says: “It’s good to be together again after a couple of tough local derbies the past weekend.
“All of us are looking forward to build some good team spirit and to continue with our important preparations for the French series I can already sense the energy and the good vibe amongst the players.”
