It’s only the second time that South Africa have won the title and the first time since 2008/9.
The Springbok Sevens beat surprise packages Scotland 15-5 in the Paris Cup final yesterday to win their fifth event of the 10-round tournament.
But Neil Powell’s manne were crowned champions before they even took the field to face New Zealand in the semifinals, who they beat 26-5.
Their success was cemented by a rampant Scotland, who beat England in the semifinal and Fiji in the quarterfinals to make sure the Boks couldn’t be caught at the top of the standings.
The South Africans though, insist they will push hard to make a ninth final of the season in London next week.
Coach Powell says: “It’s been an incredible season so far.
“And we want to finish strongly in London next week.
“Credit to all the people in the system – not just the players, but for the management back home for really working hard to make it happen.”
