Egland spinner Moeen Ali destroyed the Proteas as they were beaten by 211 runs in the first Test at Lord’s yesterday.
Ali took 6/53 as South Africa were bowled out for just 119 runs in search of 331 for the win on Day Four of the Test.
The Proteas entered the day on the back foot, with England resuming their second innings on 119/1.
This after the hosts already enjoyed a first-innings lead of 97 runs.
But Dean Elgar and his spanmaats clawed their way back to bowl out the Poms for just 233 runs and thereby giving themselves a realistic chance of winning the match.
It wasn’t to be, though, as Ali carved through their batting line-up with ease.
At one stage, the Proteas were struggling at 28/4 after their top order failed once again and the rest followed like lambs to the slaughter.
Like South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj did earlier in the day when he bagged 4/85, Ali made great use of the dry track to finish the match with figures of 10/109.
