Manchester United have stunned Chelsea again by threatening to hijack the Blues’ move for Tiemoue Bakayoko.
After stealing Everton striker Romelu Lukaku from under the Premier League champions’ noses, United have told Monaco they are prepared to pay more than £40m for the 22-year-old midfielder.
This after the France champions rejected a £37m bid from Chelsea, but the Blues have made no improved offer for the powerhouse.
The France international is understood to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge rather than Old Trafford.
And Monaco know it will come as another bitter blow to coach Antonio Conte’s title defence if Bakayoko escapes from his grasp and turns up at Old Trafford as a direct rival.
United, though, are turning up the heat.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are reported to be turning their attention Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, who looked set to join the Red Devils before the shock Lukaku deal.
The Blues have tabled a £62 million bid for the 24-year-old, but Real Madrid are holding out for around £80m, the reports say.
Chelsea have reportedly offered Morata wages of £150 000 a week on a five-year contract.
Morata is keen to link up with the former Juventus boss.
He told the Guardian in April: “I feel indebted to him because he’s the coach that most trusted in me, most wanted me, who made me feel I could perform at the highest level.trusted in me, most wanted me, who made me feel I could perform at the highest level.
