POSITIVE: De Villiers

The Proteas will play three ODIs against England before their Champions Trophy campaign kicks off on 3 June against Sri Lanka and Abbas believes that his team can finally deliver some silverware.

He says: “We have been playing good cricket over the last few months, years really.

“After the disappointment of the World Cup in 2015 we really picked ourselves up and got good results.

“So we go there with confidence and we want to win the trophy. That’s why we are going there.”

February was the last time the Proteas played in their one-day kits when they edged New Zealand 3-2 in series win in the Land of the Long White Cloud.

De Villiers top-scored during that series with 262 runs at an average of 87.33 but that was followed by a below-par IPL where he only scored 216 runs at an average of 27 in nine matches, however the batting superstar is not too concerned about his form.

Meanwhile, Protea team doctor Dr Mohammed Moosajee says that Faf du Plessis has a shoulder niggle, but the Test skipper will be fit for the first ODI against England on 24 May.
