RED NOW: Romelu Lukaku

Jose hijacks Blues’ move to re-unite with yster Lukaku

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is a sly Devil and he proved it by reportedly hijacking ex-club Chelsea’s move for Romelu Lukaku.
And he used the perfect bait to do so too.

Reports claim that the Special One has worked a £75m deal with Everton for the 25-goal striker, with United’s Wayne Rooney moving the other way.

Lukaku was linked with a move back to Stamford Bridge, where he left for Goodison Park in 2014, for most of the off-season.

In fact, it was Jose who sold a then-20-year-old Lukaku to the Toffees for £28m.

Now the Portuguese wants him back and he wants to do so in record time as he looks to get the deal done before United jet off for their US tour on Sunday.

Lukaku is a client of super-agent Mino Raiola, who also looks after Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan – three players all signed by United last year.

The Belgian striker also turned down the biggest contract offer in Everton’s history in March this year, and later said: “I don’t want to stay at the same level.

“I want to improve and I know where I want to do that.”

Meanwhile, Everton had been prepared to spend £10m on Rooney with £150 000 a week on wages.

The Toffees originally attempted to sign Roo on loan but major shareholder Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright have since recognised the commercial value in bringing him back home 13 years after his £27m departure.

On top of that, United’s willingness to let him go for free allows more leeway on wage negotiations.

Rooney had one year left on his contract at United with an option for a further year and after he was spotted leaving his boyhood club earlier this week, it is clear that he will be moving “back home” soon.
