TOP FOUR: Down in Caf semifinals

A change of mindset is what has transformed Mamelodi Sundowns into Caf Champions League semifinalists.

That’s playmaker Keagan Dolly’s belief as he and the Brazilians did the double over Zamalek to top their group and book a final-four spot in the tournament only one South African team has ever won - Orlando Pirates in 1995.

A late second-half own-goal gave Downs the three points in Pretoria on Wednesday night.

And Olympics-bound Dolly says: “I think back then we used to focus on the opponents rather than enjoying ourselves.

“We really go at them, which is why things have been going well for us.”

Meanwhile, Brazilians boss Pitso Mosimane says PSL teams need to do the same thing and start taking African competition seriously.

He adds: “We work so hard to make sure South African teams take it seriously, and some people they don’t care about it.

“Sometimes, rather have people who really want to participate, like Platinum Stars. They really want it, they are happy to be part of it.

“It’s not only good for us, but it’s good for the country, good for Bafana, it’s beautiful. We need to play in this space.

“It’s mentality, it’s culture. I don’t know, maybe we should blame apartheid for being outside continental football for such a long time. But the days of apartheid are gone, guys.”
