The pressure is on Kaizer Chiefs when they set foot in the Cape Town Stadium tonight where they will face a determined Cape Town City FC in the MTN8 (kickoff 8pm).
That’s if City coach Eric Tinkler is to be believed.
Tinkler’s new side got off to the perfect start this week, winning their first ever PSL match in the Mother City 2-0 against Polokwane.
George Lebese and his Chiefs teammates, meanwhile, went down 2-1 to Wits, leading Tinkler to say: “The pressure is on them [Chiefs].
“After a first league match against Wits where both are title contenders‚ it was always going to be an interesting one to see who would come through that and, quietly, I am happy they lost because they are now under more pressure.”
Tinkler also believes his charges will up their game, adding: “I believe we will put in a far better performance.
“It’s a game that requires very little preparation that I need to do.
“There’s obviously advice I can give the players because I’ve played Chiefs so many times over the past four seasons.
“That becomes important‚ making sure they know where their strengths and weaknesses lie.”
Meanwhile, Aubrey Ngoma, who scored one of Cape Town City’s two goals, says the win over Polokwane boosted the squad’s confidence.
He tells Goal.com: “We have set the tone for the season.
“Teams should know that as much as we have signed a lot of new players, we are not going to be pushovers to anyone.
“We are here to compete and not in the league just to add numbers.
“It [the win] is a massive confidence booster, starting off well so that we don’t go into the game [against Chiefs] with our heads dropped... but we won it and that should give the guys a lot of confidence.”
