South Africa U23 coach Owen da Gama has some injury problems as he readies his team for their Olympic adventure.
Striker Tashreeq Morris and midfielder Mothobi Mvala sat out training in Brasilia on Wednesday due to light hamstring injuries ahead of next Thursday’s opener against hosts Brazil.
The duo joined midfielders Thabiso Kutumela and Phumlani Ntshangase and defender Kwanda Mngonyama in the treatment room.
Kutumela and Ntshangase are still recovering from tight hamstring muscles and Mngonyama is nursing an ankle strain sustained during the 2016 Cosafa Cup.
The trio participated in a few drills during the training session before being rested.
The boss says the move to bench Morris and Mvala was a precaution from the medical team.
Da Gama says: “We were advised by the medical team to sit Morris and Mvala out of the training session just to make sure that they don’t aggravate their injuries.”
Meanwhile, Keagan Dolly was expected in camp last night after helping Sundowns beat Zamalek 1-0 on Wednesday night.
