Argentina star Lionel Messi will stand trial for alleged tax fraud.

Argentina star Lionel Messi, who is due to go on trial in Barcelona for alleged tax fraud, told a judge that he never looks at the contracts he signs, according to reports in Spain.

Sources got access to Messi’s September 2013 statement and published extracts before the five-time World Player of the Year and his father stand trial today.

Messi says: “I signed things, but I never look at the contracts. I don’t know what I sign.

Messi and his father, Jorge, are accused of using fake companies in Belize and Uruguay to avoid paying $4.7 million in taxes of Messi’s income earned through the sale of his image rights from 2007-09.

Ronaldo hits back at critics

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo slammed |his critics after his third Champions League title.

Ronaldo was anonymous for the most of the final against Atletico Madrid on Saturday, before scoring the decisive final penalty in the shootout victory.

He says: “I don’t care about that. I always keep the people who love me [close].

“So this Champions League is for them, the guys who support me all the time, my fans in Portugal and around the world.”

“After this I have more than 4000 minutes on the pitch this season. I was number one in the team again, for most minutes. That means a lot to me.”

Three Ajax players in Cosafa Cup team

Shakes Mashaba named his Cosafa Cup squad for next month’s tournament in Namibia (11-25 June).

The squad boasts a number of U23 players who are expected to turn out for South Africa at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in August.

Three Ajax Cape Town players made the 20-man group – Jody February, Rivaldo Coetzee and Abbubaker Mobara.

In-form Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker Keagan Dolly is set to make an impact for the team, while attacking talent Gift Motupa, Lebo Mothiba and Thabiso Kutumela will add extra threat.
