The Proteas have a new set of spin twins.
Convenor of selectors Linda Zondi believes it’s a duo that will spin the Aussies in a web in next month’s Test tour Down Under.
The Titans’ Tabraiz Shamsi and the Dolphins’ Keshav Maharaj, both uncapped, have been included in the touring party for three five-dayers.
And Zondi says: “For us, we have looked at the variety of spinners that we have, and Shamsi’s inclusion will give us that upper hand
“We’ve noticed that some of the guys at the moment, he has the upper hand.
“You could see that they haven’t picked up how to read him.
“He has more five-fers than any other spinner in the franchises, so we are rewarding guys who have done well for their franchises, as well as guys who we feel can contribute at a higher level.
“You find less and less of those bowlers [chinaman], and as long as we have them and they are bowling well and performing consistently – which Shamsi has done – this is a guy who has troubled a lot of batters at franchise level.
“So let’s see what he can offer, as an option, going to Australia. We are quite excited about that.”
