CAUGHT: Three men accused of robbing taxi driver

Three suspected thieves were saved by cops after an angry horde of mense cornered them.

Cops rescued three men from a mob yesterday after they were accused of stealing and beaten up with knobkieries and sjamboks.

An eyewitness says the trio were tied up with ropes and beaten by the angry mob who claimed they had broken into the home of a taxi driver in Grabouw.

The men were tied to a pole, and despite their cries for mercy, beaten till the bloed spat.

The beating only stopped when cops with sirens blaring arrived on the scene and rescued them.

Hulle was dik gemoer. But the cops and law enforcement officers arrived and saved them,” says the witness.

Captain FC van Wyk says the three men sustained light injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for
medical treatment.

“At approximately 11am, three unknown men were accused of breaking into a business premises in the Grabouw CBD,” he says.

“The three men were assaulted by bystanders.”

He adds that both cops and local law enforcement officers were quick to react to the complaint of the men being assaulted.

“No criminal cases were opened by the owner (of the business premises that was broken into) or the accused,” says Van Wyk.
