Just two months after a train driver shot and killed one of his three robbers at Kraaifontein train station, commuters chased down an alleged robber, threw him off a roof and stoned him to death.
The 28-year-old man had allegedly stolen a woman’s bag.
A witness, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “The robber grabbed the woman’s bag and ran off, but people chased after him like bloodhounds.
“The little man ran and jumped onto one of the station’s buildings, trying to get away from his attackers. A man took a kierie and beat him off the roof.
“He lost his balance and he fell off the roof and onto the tracks. There men picked up sticks and stones en hulle het hom dood gestone.
“He died lying next to a pole, eyes wide open.”
Residents in the area say the deceased had a “wonderful talent for music”, but “changed” and started robbing mense.
Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana confirms the incident on Wednesday evening at about 6.30pm.
“According to information, police attended a complaint at the address and found a body of a male lying with multiple injuries to his body. A case of murder is under investigation. No one has been arrested as yet.”
