Sanco was shocked at Eskom CEO Brian Molefe’s resignation on Friday.
It was a setback for black corporate excellence, the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) spokesman Jabu Mahlangu said.
The resignation follows after Molefe was named in former public protector Thuli Madonsela’s report on state capture, although Molefe has insisted this was not the reason he quit his job.
Mahlangu says: “Though it is premature to assume that the move was prompted by the public protector’s state capture report, the timing of the resignation which coincides with its release suggests that those fingered in it might be beginning to appreciate its gravity and implications.”
In her report, Madonsela found that Molefe made dozens of calls to the Guptas and his cellphone was also tracked down to Saxonworld, where the Guptas live, on numerous occasions.
Molefe, however, during a tearful statement insisted he had been visiting a shebeen in the larney suburb.
