SA’s Parnell setback

OUT: Wayne Parnell

Injury benches Cobra star for rest of Aus ODI series.

Proteas allrounder Wayne Parnell has been ruled out of the rest of the ODI series against
Australia.

The left-armer paceman suffered another injury setback when bruising around the ribs hampered his bowling.

Ahead of yesterday’s third ODI in Durban, team doctor Mohammed Moosajee explained: “Wayne had a high-impact landing while fielding during the second ODI, with subsequent scans confirming a rib injury.

“He will require two to three weeks of rest before he can resume bowling, which makes him unavailable for the remainder of this series.”

Parnell took 3/40 in the 142-run victory at the Wanderers to help the Proteas to a 2-0 lead in the five-match series, and also 1/56 and 2/36 in his previous two ODIs.

The Cape Cobras star has only just been re-establishing himself in the side after a slump in form and consistency.
