The angry dad of these cute twins say SA’s Got Talent broke their hearts.
Edward Sauls claims his songbirds were told they made it to round two of the talent show after their auditions, but have not received a callback from producers.
The second of three live semifinals took place last night, while the grand finale will be held on Sunday, November 6.
“We need answers because this has left the twins in a sad state where they don’t really sing anymore,” the dad says.
It was the first time in their lives that identical twins, Lucresha and Laceesha Sauls of New Woodlands, Mitchells Plain, entered a singing competition.
Mom Janine, 39, says they auditioned in April.
The girls performed Powerful by Alicia Keys, and did a video recording at etv’s studios innie stad.
“We arrived at 2.30am on that morning and after the twins performed, the letter C was placed on the number sheet they received, which meant they moved to an interview and recording session,” the mom says.
“The twins were interviewed and asked what they would do with the prize money.
“There were about four takes and the producer said they would contact us via email or call us when they needed to come back for the second round.”
Lucresha says: “We chose that song because it has a high pitch and we had no backing track. We felt happy and wanted to perform the song again.’’
But the family were “devastated” when they saw the competition had gone on ahead without the girls getting a callback.
“We saw it in the newspaper (Daily Voice) and were disappointed that there was no email or phone call. I visited etv’s offices and they gave me the details for SA’s Got Talent,” says Edward.
“(SAGT) said the twins’ recording was viewed but didn’t indicate whether they were granted position in the second round.”
But SAGT’s Michael Pocock says: “I have discussed this with production and there clearly was a misunderstanding in terms of the process.
“Some contestants are selected to get additional filming (as were the twins).
“This is not an indication that they have made it through to the next round but we have identified them as people that may be interesting on camera.
“We have pulled the audition clip and I can confirm the producer did not tell them they ‘made it through to the next round’.
“She simply said we would like to get some additional footage with them.”
