Die Antwoord says Hollywood stole their vibe.
South African zef rap team Ninja and Yolandi Visser have accused Suicide Squad director David Ayer of “jockin their style”.
The controversial rappers say DC characters Harley Quinn and The Joker are a rip-off of Die Antwoord.
Yolandi posted a video on Instagram showing the similarities between her and Margot Robbie’s character Harley Quinn and how similar Jared Leto’s The Joker is to Ninja.
The song Jockin My Style from Craig Mack accompanies the video.
She also claims Ayer contacted Die Antwoord before working on the movie.
She writes: “callin ninja up before your movie came our pretendin 2b down, so it looks OK when u bite our black & white graf style & our opening sequence to umshiniwam & an all da lil tiny details u nibbeld dat other people wont see but we notice.”
The blonde rapper says Ninja was invited to the movie premiere and was shocked to see his style was being jacked.
She adds: “Cara [Delevingne] & Jared told us how much u were talkin abt us on set but * never asked our permision to rip us off.”
Visser said that Ayer has not responded to the claims.
“When ninja texted u sayin wassup wif dat u said nothin like a scared lil b!tch.”
The duo trended on Twitter yesterday, but South Africans have no sympathy for them, accusing them of ripping off blacks and coloureds’ careers.
@GugsM tweeted: “Die Antwoord, whose whole career is built on cultural appropriation, are upset someone stole from them?!”
